Dear Friend, The RiME Petition was presented at the MRC on September 2, 2002.

16,002 people asked: that a panel of specialists in the fields of Neurology, Immunology, Endocrinology and other disciplines but with the exception of Psychiatry be established to commission research into the aetiology (underlying physical causes) of M.E.; that a research program be up and running by the end of 2002.

Details of the presentation and meeting are enclosed.

The RiME Petition was about ordinary PWME, their relatives, carers... doing something to affect change. The words on the Petition were carefully chosen and those who signed believe them quite adequate in terms of making a point: a point which is clear and easy to understand.

The fact that 16,002 signed makes a powerful statement. This is the beginning of a vigorous campaign to get research into M.E.: epidemiology; investigation of underlying physical causes.

Please consider writing to Dr.Diana Dunstan MRC, 20 Park Crescent, London, W1B 1AL. Ask if the Group has begun a nationwide epidemiological study into M.E.; is it based on strictly defined criteria i.e. Ramsay (1988); and is it getting out to the homes of severely affected PWME?
