TWO NEW REPORTS - 26th June 2003

Margaret Williams draws attention to two major UK Reports which may be of interest to the ME community.

On 25th June 2003 a Report by a Working Party chaired by Professor Stephen Holgate was published by the Royal College of Physicians Publications Department. The Report is called “Allergy: The Unmet Need” and is unequivocal that NHS provision is hopeless. It highlights the fact that allergies are increasing to the extent that one in three people are now affected (ie. 18 million people in the UK), some very seriously. Environmental factors may be contributing to this increase in allergies. The Report costs about £17 and is available from the RCP Publications Department in London (telephone 0207-935-1174)

On 26th June 2003 at 11 am today a 287 page Command Paper (reference CM5827) was released which is a Report produced by The Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution entitled “Chemicals in Products: Safeguarding the Environment and Human Health”. The Chairman of the Royal Commission was Sir Tom Blundell FRS from Cambridge, who spoke on the “Today” programme on BBC Radio 4 this morning, saying that there are now more than 30,000 chemicals everywhere in everyday use but that only 4,000 had been tested. The Report costs £27.20 and is available from the UK Stationary Office. ISBN number: 01 01 582 722 (telephone of Stationary Office Customer Services is 0870-600-5522).
